OSÓRIO-RS:

From April 4 to 6, the 6th Meeting of Cities in the Mercosul was held in Osório, RS for unifying and streamlining the relationships between Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Paraguay.  The event was sponsored by the Federation of the Municipal Associations in RS (FAMURS) and by the city hall of Osório.  Around 800 people showed up for the event, many of them from other countries, mainly Argentina.  For the closing ceremony, a monument in honor of the integration of the peoples of Mercosul was inaugurated on a rock located on the Morro das Antenas ("Hill of the Antennas) in Borussia.  The former mayor of Osório, Mr. Alceu Moreira, unveiled the plaque.  The city of Osório has been supporting this event since it began.  Another monument was inaugurated at the beginning of the highway that links Osório and Porto Alegre ("Freeway"), at a point that is equidistant between the two major metropolises of the Mercosul, São Paulo and Buenos Aires.  Images:   1,   2,   3,   4  5,   6,   7,   8,   9  10  11

SANTO ANTÔNIO DA PATRULHA-RS:

Before the Freeway (BR-290) was built linking the capital of Porto Alegre to the north shore of RS, the movement of going and coming of the beaches was done through the bucolic road of RS-030.  At this time (before the 70s), this city was well-known for its cafés, pastries, blocks of raw brown sugar, and cachaças (sugar cane brandy or rum) however with the change of flow of people going to the beaches, many of these houses shut down.  Recently, the "Casa da Colônia" (Colonial House) located at the intersection of RS-030 with RS-474 (that goes toward Taquara) has brought back this tradition in great style:   1,   2,   3,   4  5

RIOZINHO-RS:

ROLANTE-RS:
