New developments (until 12/31/2002)

       

Some changes have been implemented recently. The main ones are:

- 23rd December 2002: New digital photographs of Gramado and Nova Petrópolis on câmera 2. These cities are located on the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and feature a very peculiar Christmas spirit at this time of the year;

- 15th December 2002: New digital photographs and a new video, on câmera 2, of the Christmas Concert promoted by the city government of Bom Princípio-RS;

- 6th December 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of the award ceremony of the 20 most innovative experiences in Brazil, according to the Programme of Public Management and Citizenship, coordinated by the  São Paulo-based Getúlio Vargas Foundation, which has financial support from BNDES and Ford Foundation, and technical support from several Brazilian institutions, including UFRGS' Post Graduation Programme;

- 1st December 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of flamboyant trees in Porto Alegre-RS;

- 26th November 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of the 48th Porto Alegre Book Fair;

- Several new chronicles on Lilian's Chronicles, written by the Social Communications undergraduate Lilian Piraine Laranja, on several European cities visited between 18th August 2002 and 17th September 2002;

- 26th October 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of several trees on streets and parks of Porto Alegre;

-  20th October 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of the jacarandas at Praça da Matriz in Porto Alegre;

- 20th October 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of the jacarandas on streets and parks of Porto Alegre;

- 12th and 13th October 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of a group of Germans visiting Rio Grande do Sul;

- 22nd September 2002: New digital photographs, on câmera 2, of the Farroupilha Camp, at Harmony Park; 

- New digital photographs on câmera 2: the second selection of “Wcams web site top 15 pics”, on 15/09/2002;

- New digital photographs on câmera 2: pictures from the Fair of Flowers and Fruit (Citrusflor), taking place in the small town of Pareci Novo, on 14/09/2002;

- New articles on “Lilian’s Chronicles", written by UFRGS Media Studies undergraduate Lilian Piraine Laranja, about European cities, especially some in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy and Germany  (30/08/2002);

- New digital photographs on câmera 2: Praça da Matriz, in Porto Alegre, highlighting Palácio Piratini, featuring the flag of Rio Grande do Sul, and the “Forte Apache” building, whose restoration is almost finished (02/09/2002);

- Notícias da Alemanha: a new section featuring information and news on the cultural interchange between the municipality of São Vendelino (RS/Brazil) and the region of Sankt Wendel, in the state of Saarland, Germany; this interchange may lead to tightening the links between the states of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and Saarland (Germany), from where originated most German immigrants that settled the area nowadays called Rio Grande do Sul(15/07/2002);

- Notícias: a notice board aimed at spreading news on events in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil.

 - Inclusion of a forum in the news section of this site, on July 7, 2002, for the presentation and registration of events in the municipalities of RS and Brazil.

- Inclusion of digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on June 30, 2002, about the celebrations on Goethe Av. in Porto Alegre-RS because of Brazil's national soccer team winning the World Cup for the fifth time.

- Inclusion of digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on June 23, 2002, about the Moinhos de Vento park in Porto Alegre-RS.

- Inclusion of digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on June 20, 2002, about the Famurs Congress and the inauguration of the EATW studio, TV by internet of the School of Administration at UFRGS, created in order to socialize information and knowledge in the area of administration.

- Inclusion of digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on June 16, 2002, about the Moinhos de Vento park in Porto Alegre-RS.

- Inclusion of digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on June 15, 2002, about the small city of São Vendelino-RS.

- Presentation of the "Chronicles of Lilian" in the mobile camera section of this Wcams site.  The chronicles are produced by a student in social communication at UFRGS and who is now the correspondent of this site, Lilian Piraine Laranja.  Her intention to visit various cities in Europe during her trips from May to October of this year (May 9, 2002).

- Inclusion of images in videostream (live, with images in movement and sound) coming from camcorders and webcams, showing the Central Square, the Largo dos Açorianos, the Guaíba Lake, and Av. Loureiro da Silva in Porto Alegre-RS, in partnership with EATW of the School of Administration at UFRGS (on April 14, 2002).

- Inclusion of the digital pictures in the camera 2 section of this site, on April 6, 2002, about the 6th Meeting of the Municipalities in the Mercosul, in Osório-RS, as well as articles related to the municipalities of Santo Antônio da Patrulha, Rolante, and Riozinho.

- Presentation of "Chronicles of Lilian" in the section of mobile camera of this Wcams site.  The chronicles are produced by the social communication student from UFRGS and now correspondent of this site, Lilian Piraine Laranja. Her objective is to visit the cities of Europe during a period of May to October of this year

- Inclusion of videos 1 and 2, to show live images, in videostream, of the Largo dos Açorianos (Azorian Square) and Guaíba Lake, in Porto Alegre - RS (on April 14, 2002);

- Inclusion of translations into English and Spanish of two outstanding events, which have recently taken place in the State of Rio Grande do Sul: the 34thInternational Animal Fair (Expointer) and the 9th  National Strawberry Festival. The documentaries, with explanations and dozens of images allow reviewing some aspects of the events, knowing better the host municipalities and contacting the companies that have presented products and services during the events (10/03/2001). The documentaries about Expointer and the National Strawberry Festival are among the most visited sections of the Wcams site. The texts were translated into English and Spanish by Traduzca (10/03/2001).

- Inclusion of translations of a significant documentary, which was earlier produced by the Wcams site, on the I World Social Forum (FSM), which took place in Porto Alegre-RS, last January; the documentary, which was formerly edited in the Portuguese language has been translated into 5 other languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian and German), presents texts and several images of this historical event and also of the city and State, which promoted it. For 2002, more than 80,000 visitors from several countries are being expected. The translation of the texts into the several languages was made by the company Traduzca (10/02/2001);

- Inclusion of digitalized pictures in the section camera 2 of this site, showing fireworks after a night event promoted by the telephone company at Pôr-do-sol amphitheater, at the margin of Guaíba Lake (09/29/2001);

This shall significantly increase the number of accesses (nowadays they are around 275,000 per month), considering that less than 1% of the world surfers use the Portuguese language to communicate. This colony, formed by Mennonites who came to RS 50 years ago, is an interesting and peculiar village full of gardens and flowers, an unusual feature for this cattle-raising area.
